Cheetah Charm...Girl Power Fun!

I noticed the blog has been showing alot of our yellow work, so I thought I'd switch it up today, as the cupcakes I was going to post today were peach & yellow (I have saved them for another post!)!! My younger daughter loves the Cheetah Girls', so for her 8th birthday, we threw her a Cheetah Girls' Girl Power inspired party!

Cheetah print often comes across a bit "cheezy", and is normaly associated with more adult events such as Hen nights or Lingerie parties. So we had plan the event style with children in mind, always making sure that the cheetah print was used in the right places, so as she's 8, we kept it 8 year-old chic, with subtle touches of the cheetah print, setting it of against a hot purple, & a hot blue cheetah style print thanks to designer Bluwmagik!! The Pound store never lets me down with great finds for the accessories, including reusable bowls & cups in the right shades of the colour scheme in their picnic section. We used cheetah stars; hot blue silicone cupcake cases for the sweets; gold coloured plates to add some bling; soft blue & purple organza ribbons; purple & blue pom-poms; blue straws and a purple & cheetah print banner. So from Cheetah Charm Shoot juice, to cheetah print lollipops; charming Cheetah Charm cupcakes to Girl Power choccies...she had it all! Here's a sneak peak...

A Blooming Love Bridal Shower

On one of the best summery days in May, we styled a surprise Bridal Shower in yellow, white and blue. The sunny weather was a perfect match to the bursts of yellow in the design accents. The theme of the shower was Blooming Love… showering the bride with blessings of love and well wishes as the couples love continues to blossom as they enter this new chapter in their lives!

The colour palette included a shade from the bride-to-be's wedding colours, and we went for the opposite of end and chose a lemony yellow and paired it with a nautical blue. The colours were fresh, spring tones, perfectly matching the time of year.

We styled a mini dessert buffet with Bluebell Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes, Lemon Cream Cupcakes, an array of delicate cookies, sweet popcorn cones, chocolate biscuit fingers with bridal messages of Love and Cherish. As yellow and blue are strong colours, keeping the serving platters white toned down the strength of the 2 colours together. We adorned the table with a Blooming Love banner, as well as balloon baskets, which were yellow of course! Our handmade pom-poms were a fantastic decorative accessory to dress the window area which over looked the venue's training field, and also served as good distraction from the running track. We kept the guest table's simple with Blooming Love themed napkin wrappers and our favourite biodegradable cutlery and added small clusters of yellow chrysanths as the centre piece.

We kept the food to light and simple finger food, which is a convenient way for guests to keep popping over to the table without disrupting the event program, lifting and clanging lids and spoons!! Trust me this happens a lot! Take a peak at the fantastic day enjoyed by all...

It's been a while…

It's been a while but we are back…when the body tells you to slow down, my best advice is to listen to it!! I had to learn the hard way, and have had to seriously slow down, take some time out and have had a lot of time to think. Thinking is good when you think positively and always jot down those positive thoughts…it helps to empty the mind "brain drain", and helps you create a clearer picture of the direction you are headed in.

We've been upto a lot over the past few months. Remember my gorg pair of saffron coloured Nina Ricci heels, well we were blessed with the opportunity to style the wedding, and the chosen palette was the yellow family centred around the colour saffron and we paired it off with a slate grey shade and pure white. I will be sharing an insight into the day, but here's a sneak peak…

V is For Valentine's Day

We are halfway through the first month in 2010, and can you believe it, Valentine's Day is nearly here...and we are currently working on a Red Velvet Tea Party. What comes to mind when I think of V Day is: deeps reds, plums, cherries, black silk, mocha, silks, velvet, vintage lace, pearls, diamantés, damask patterns, sexy polka dots, red velvet cake, dark chocolate, pink champagne, scented candles, candelabras, deep red roses, silky lingerie, strawberries, laughter, passion, appreciation...your colour palette and style inspiration is what you make it.

In today's DIY lifestyle, why not create your own Valentine's Day event in your own home, be it for your beloved, for your gals, or even family. Valentine's day celebrates love and love is limitless! Remember our 5 senses always come into play when planning any event:
Smell- what scents will you use in the room?
Hear - what sounds will you use to create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere?
Touch - soft furnishing and silky fabrics, how will this feel on their skin?
Taste - aroma, colour, food flavours, all these should complement your setup.
See - sums up all of the above. Your colours, use of different shapes, sounds, aromas and choice of materials is what creates and delivers your unique and personal interpretation of Valentine's Day.
